With the initiation of Hon. Anuradha Yahampath, the Governor of Eastern Province, the Academic Professional of Eastern University of Sri Lanka delivered a higher level presentation relating to their research findings and development interventions at a workshop chaired by the Hon. Governor with the participation of all the Secretaries, Deputy Chief Secretaries, Heads of the Departments and other senior officials of EPC on 10.01.2023 at MDTU, Trincomalee.
The Chief Secretary, Mr. R.M.P.S. Rathnayake welcomed all the invitees and briefed the overall objective of the workshop. Mr.N.Thamilchelvan, DCS-Planning facilitated the programme throughout the workshop session.
The Academic Professionals of EUSL clearly presented their research findings particularly under the areas of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Inland fisheries, Alternative Energy sources , Marketing Technology, Small Industry, etc,. and proposed several economically viable development interventions which could be incorporated in the Development Plans of the Provincial Agencies.
This intellectual workshop has resulted in fruitful outcomes through bilateral conversation between Provincial Authorities and Academia where several development strategies were clearly discussed for consideration in future development plans of the EPC while it was agreed that development intervention proposed by the professionals beyond provincial mandatory could be approached with the support of relevant line ministries.
Hon. Governor advised to hold sector wise separate discussions with the facilitation role of Academic Professionals of EUSL in near future in view to further sharpen the development initiatives recommended by the Provincial Agencies in their Development Plans.
Overall coordination of the workshop was handled by the Provincial Planning Secretariat of EPC. The Director of MDTU, EPC made all necessary logistic arrangement including venue. The programme was ended successfully with much productive results.
