The Ampara District New Hostel belongs to the Department of Probation and Child Care was ceremonially opened by Hon.Governor Anuradha Yahampath in Karangawa area.
The Governor's Secretariat provided four million rupees for the renovation of this building, which was established under the name of "Senehas Arana"scheme.
To enhance the safety and security of children in residential care, Department of Probation & Child care services, joint coordination with UNICEF, established hand wash facilities in children homes and state running homes. Under the UNICEF financial support, CERI NGO provided 32 numbers of hand washing sinks to Children homes, and state homes.

The 4th Safe house for Eastern Province under the Probation Department was ceremonially opened by Mr. A.H.M. Ansar, Secretary, Ministry of Health, and EP on the invitation of Provincial Commissioner Mrs. Risvani Rifas on 11.02.2021.
