In line with the decision on conducting Provincial Planning Committee Meeting for the 1st quarter-2024 Ministry wise separately, the third PPC meeting for the 1st quarter for the Ministry of Local Government and its cluster departments was conducted on 24th April 2024 at 2.00 pm at the Main Conference Hall of the Chief Secretary’s Secretariat, EPC Trincomalee and it was chaired by Mr.R.M.P.S.Rathnayake, the Chief Secretary of the EPC.
Chief Secretary, welcomed all the participants in his opening remark and highlighted the real objective of the meeting and specific roles & responsibilities of every head of the department in successfully accomplishing the Annual Implementation Programme-2024 under various sources of capital funds especially under provincial funds planned in 2024. He highly focused on the implementation and monitoring mechanism of the capital development programmes at every level that should be streamlined efficiently since existing monitoring /supervision mechanism is much weak and not effective at Ministry and Departmental level.
Mr.N.Thamilchelvan, Deputy Chief Secretary - Planning, EPC presented an overview of the Capital Budget -2024 of the Ministry of Local Government and its cluster departments of Local Government, Rural Development, Rural Industry, Tourism Bureau, Housing Authority, Transport Authority , Buildings and special ministry units of Law & Order and Environment. He also summarized the current status of the Capital Development Programmes under PSDG, CBG and Maintenance Budget programmes. Appropriate remedial solutions were taken up under guidance of Chief Secretary, EPC for shortcomings/issues in implementation identified at the meeting.
Similarly, Commissioner of Local Government presented an overview on the current status of the ongoing programmes under Special Projects and Line Ministry Programmes.
The Secretary-Ministry of Local Government (functioned as well as Commissioner of Local Government ) , DCS-Finance , Chairman -Tourism Bureau , PD- Buildings, PD- Rural Development, PD- Rural Industries, GM- Housing Authority, GM- Transport Authority , GM-Tourism Bureau and other senior officials from the Provincial Treasury, Provincial Planning Secretariat and the relevant Ministry & the Departments of EPC attended the meeting.
