Opening Ceremony of the Liquid Milk Sales Outlet Established at Samapura, Ampara was held on 16th November 2021. Mr. D.M.L. Bandaranayake, former GA in Ampara, Mrs. P. Kalamathy, Secretery, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. M.A.M. Fazi, Provincial Director, Dept. of Animal Production & Health, Eastern province, Dr. M.A. Nadheer, Deputy Director, Ampara were the distinguished guests for the event. Mr. G.R. Sumith Kumarasiri was the beneficiary of this project. In addition to fresh milk, value added products like yoghurt, curd, ice-cream are also sold at this outlet. This project was funded by the line ministry.
Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is a viral disease of cattle and buffaloa typically characterized by nodules or lumps on the skin. A new virus has been first reported from Northern Province among cattle and spread to many parts of the country. Pocket outbreaks were notified all over the country and susceptibility much higher in cattle than buffaloes. Other species of livestock have not been affected by this viral disease.
