Courtesy visit by Her Excellency Shelley Whiting, the High Commissioner of Canada to the Hon. Rohitha Bogollagama, the Governor of the Eastern Province

Her Excellency the High Commissioner of Canada Shelley Whiting has made a courtesy visit to the Hon. Governor of the Eastern Province Rohitha Bogollagama on 12.07.2017 at the Governor's Secretariat, Trincomalee.

In this occasion, Hon. Governor greatly appreciated Canada's support in large scaled skill development programmes, vocational and industrial training programmes in the Eastern Province and also their support to Sri Lankan Government in various instances.

The Hon. Governor also noted on the development potential in this province including tourism sector and its development, inviting Canadian Government to assist the Tourism Sector in Sri Lanka. He further added on development activities in the Eastern Province and also explained about the unemployment issues and remedial solutions of the Government to solve the unemployment issues.

The Canadian High Commissioner reciprocating Hon. Governor Bogollagama's comments, stated that Canada also values its relationship with Eastern Province of Sri Lanka and pointed out that her Government is willing to develop hospitality sector in the Eastern Province. She expressed her satisfaction over the skill development. The Canadian High Commissioner agreed to consider Hon. Governor Bogollagama's request for tourism development support and assistance for hospitality sector.

Hon. Governor Bogollagama while thanking High Commissioner for undertaking her visit to Eastern Province, expressed the hope that Sri Lanka and Canada could enter into a positive and structured engagement in their relationship. The Secretary to the Governor Mrs. J. J. Muraleetharan and official of the accompanying delegation were present at the meeting.
