Discussion on reviving and rebuilding the tourism sector from the affects after the Easter Sunday attack held on 20.06.2019 in Trincomalee with the chairmanship Indika Nalin the Chairman of Eastern Province Tourism Bureau. This was organized by the Eastern Province Tourism Bureau under the guidance of its General Manager Mr. A.S.M. Fayis.The ultimate purpose of this high level discussion is to identify the current issues faced by the tourism sector and to decide on the short term and long term solution to these problems especially after the situation emerged after the Easter Sunday attack with the participation of tourism stakeholders, relevant authorities and tri-forces.
Eastern Province Governor, Hon. Shan Wijayalal De Silva was the chief guest of this ceremony and he delievered his special address among the gathering. Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and tourism,Mr. U.L.A. Azeez, and other secretaries of the provincial ministries, Deputy Chief Secretaries, Heads of Departments, hotel owners, representatives of hotelier’s association, representatives of chamber of commerce in Trincomalee, Chairmen of local authorities, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Commanding officers of Sri Lanka Army and Naval forces and the officials of Central Ministry of tourism were among the participants. This programme was organized with the funding and sponsorship of Skills for Inclusive Growth, the Australian aid organization.Those who participated in this event were of opinion that this discussion will be instrumental to find out the immediate and long term solutions for the problems faced by the hoteliers and other tourism stakeholders.
