Hon. Governor of the Eastern Province, Mrs. Anuradha Yahampath recently visited the Kattankudy Base Hospital. During the visit, she looked into the shortcomings prevailing in the hospital. Hospital authorities pointed out that due to unavailability of necessary specialists, there is no possibility of using the hospital's fully equipped intensive care unit. The Governor highly emphasized that necessary measures to be taken to provide the required doctors and other staff with immediate effect to function the unit.
St. Joseph’s College – Eravur, Inter - House Sports Meet was held on 2020-01-30 at the College ground with the participation of Right Rev. Dr. Ponniah Joseph, The Bishop of Batticaloa - Ampara and Hon. Anuradha Yahampath, The Governor of Eastern Province. The Governor presented the gifts and the certificates to the winners of the college athletes at this occasion.
Training Programme on Productive Communication Skills was conducted by MDTU for Minor Staff on 28 January 2020 at MDTU, Trincomalee in Tamil medium. Mr.N.Logeswaran retired Dean, Eastern University of Sri Lanka was the Resource Person of this Training Programme.
One-day Training Programme on Personal File Management was conducted by MDTU for Sinhala medium Officials on 28 January 2020 at MDTU, Trincomalee. Mr S.K.D.Neranjan, Administrative Officer, District Secretariat, Trincomalee was served as the Resource Person for this Training Programme.
Today the Eastern Province Tourism Bureau, along with the Honorable Governor of the Eastern Province, Anuradha Yahampath, launched their 2020 digital marketing tourism campaign “Visit East Sri Lanka”, designed to support and promote tourism industries across the entire Province to international audiences.
The new website www.visiteastsrilanka.lk and short videos posted on the Bureau’s Instagram @visiteast_srilanka and Facebook @visiteastsrilanka highlight the existing signature experiences across the Eastern Province, aiming to draw a larger number of visitors to the East.
The first sectoral meeting for the year 2020 of Chief Ministry was held on 27.01.2020 at Chief Ministry conference hall under the chairmanship of Mr.U.L.A.Azeez, Secretary of the Chief Ministry. Heads of Department, statutory boards officials, several regional and district level officers of institution come under purview of chief ministry were attended this meeting. At this meeting progress of development activities of last year and continuation works were mainly focused. In addition, new works for 2020 and challenges in implementing those activities also briefly discussed. Moreover, optimum use of vote on account, settlement of bills in hand, audit query matters and other common administrative issues were also taken in to consideration.

“Rise of East- 2019” Mega Agricultural Exhibition was held at A/Uhana Maha Vidyalayam Uhana, Ampara from 29th to 30th November 2019. The main objective of this exhibition is to promote and disseminate modern agricultural, livestock irrigation, cooperatives and fisheries technologies among the farming communities of Eastern Province. Farmers, school children, general public and agricultural entrepreneurs involved in value addition of agricultural produce participated in this exhibition. Awards of excellence were presented to outstanding farmers from Ampara District while students who demonstrated their competence in Agriculture Technology Innovation Program were honored by awarding certificate of achievement.
The Department of Indigenous Medicine, Eastern Province conducted the awareness programme about "Diabetes Mellitus on Diabetes day Nov 14, 2019” at Base Siddha Ayurveda Hospital, Kappalthurai on 14th November 2019, and the programme has been organized by Dr (Mrs.) R. Srithar, Provincial Commissioner, Department of Indigenous Medicine, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka and headed by Dr.(Mrs).T. Sivachelvan MD(S), Medical superintend, BAH, Kappalthurai. The Seminar and awareness programme are successfully conducted by Dr. S. Uthayanan MD(S), Medical Officer, Department of Indigenous Medicine for the public and Patients.
An awareness programme on Traffic Rules and Regulation was conducted for schools comes under purview of Batticaloa Central Educataion zone. School students from Kalmunai Pulavermani Sharifudeen M.Vidyalayam, Al-Manar Central College, Shams Central College, Al-Mazhar GHS, Al-Ashraq M.M.Vidyalayam, Wesley High School, Carmel Fatima College , Malharul Shams Maha.Vidyalam, Al-Hilal Vidyalayam were attended the awareness programme. This awareness programme has been arranged under Law and Order sector of Chief Ministry, Eastern Province. Senior Police officials were conducted the programme and explained the importance of adhering the traffic rules and regulation. They also clearly explained the potential adverse impacts of not obeying traffic rules to the school students. At this programme nearly 950 students participated and benefitted.

The Citizens Budget - a vital tool for public accountability and increased civic participation - has been developed exclusively for the public, and presents the budget in a more simple less technical format, enabling citizens to gain a better understanding of how public finances are managed and used.
